You are almost done! All you need to do now is see how to
access servers and find the files that you want.
Step 1.
Type !list
|

* Topic is ' Welcome to #fictionmania!

-maniac- Welcome
Deena_Pilgrim, Tat's
Trivia Bot, v3.21 is
activated. Type '!help'
for a list of commands or just '!trivia'
to start a game!
<TheChronoTrigger> I am another IRC user. I am speaking
to the channel and my text will appear here.
<Retro_Girl> Hey! I can also talk here, and everyone
can see my text. Although I feel like downloading something.
<Retro_Girl> !list
|
| !list
<---- This is where you
type commands. The !list command "lists" the servers
who can send you files. |
The #fictionmania channel should look a
little like this.
The channel should look similar to the image above, except
it will have a list of users on the right. Once in the channel,
you can talk and type commands in the bottom part of the window
and they will appear in the main window.
Generally, only servers will send you files, so you will need
to see a list of what servers are currently available. To display
this list, simply type !list
and hit enter.
Step 2.
Type a trigger of your choosing. Example: !DrEvil
| <TheChronoTrigger> File Server Online Triggers:«!DrEvil
!manga
!Japanese

Bug House»
Sends:«2/1» Queues:«10/40» Accessed:«6186
times» Online:«1/10» RCPS:«25.5
Kbs by kitty» Served:«55.9GB in 2914 files»
Current BW:«23.6 Kbs» AQT:«1hr 29mins»

| !DrEvil <----
I just typed a trigger here |
This is a server ad. Can you find the triggers
in this ad? I highlighted them in red
to make it easier to find.
After you type !list,
you will see a bunch of ads like the one above. In each of
these ads there will be things called triggers.
When typed, these triggers will
automatically "trigger" the server to start talking
to you. In the example above, I have highlighted the triggers
in red to make them more noticeable.
Each trigger will make a certain part of the server start
talking to you. Like !manga will
trigger the manga part of the server to start talking to you.
| <Thelo> File Server Online
Triggers:«/ctcp
Thelo !thelo /ctcp
Thelo !thelo-anime»
Sends:«3/3» Queues:«5/10» Accessed:«7245
times» Online:«0/8» RCPS:«98.7
Kbs by RONP» Served:«25.3G in 13803 files»
I-n-v-i-s-i-o-n |
| /ctcp Thelo !thelo-anime
<--- Here I typed another trigger for a different
server |
This server ad uses a different style for its trigger. Notice
the triggers begins with "/ctcp Thelo"
Here is another example of a server ad, but
this one has a little twist. The triggers in this ad begins
with "/ctcp Thelo".
So be sure that when you type a trigger, you type it exactly
as it is written.

This will pop up after you type a trigger. Just click Accept.
After you type a trigger the server should immediately
attempt to chat with you. Be sure to allow the server to talk
to you, or you won't be able to request any files.
Step 3. Type dir
to see what files are available in a particular directory.

<------------------------ This is where you
type the commands I highlighted in red |
This is the Server window. It exists for
a limited time to find out what files you want and closes once
you make a selection
Assuming that you allowed the server to chat with
you, a window similar to the one above should appear. This window
is a direct connection to a directory (or folder) on a hard
drive somewhere. You will need to travel the particular directories
on this drive and locate the file you want to download it and
request it. But to travel around this hard drive, you will need
to know a few key commands. The commands are highlighted in
red in the image above and I will
try to explain their use below..
|
Server command
|
What the command does
|
Usage of commands
|
|
dir
|
Lists what files are available in a
current directory (folder).
|
dir
|
|
cd
|
Changes what directory you are in.
|
cd Directory_Name
|
|
get
|
Requests a particular file for download.
|
get filename.extension
|
|
clr_queues
|
Removes all files you have requested.
|
clr_queues
|
Note that Directory_Name and filename.extension
will change depending on circumstance
Step 4. Type get
filename.extension to request a particular file.
<TheChronoTrigger> mIRC v6.12 File Server
<TheChronoTrigger> Use: cd dir ls get read help exit
<TheChronoTrigger> [\]
<Deena_Pilgrim> dir
<TheChronoTrigger> [\*.*]
<TheChronoTrigger> CARTOONS
<TheChronoTrigger> INTERNET_FILMS
<TheChronoTrigger> JAPANESE_VIDEO_CLIPS
<TheChronoTrigger> MOVIES
<TheChronoTrigger> MUSIC_VIDEO
<TheChronoTrigger> OTHER
<TheChronoTrigger> TELEVISION
<TheChronoTrigger> welcome_message.txt
0.54 kb
<TheChronoTrigger> End of list |
| get welcome_message.txt |
I have typed dir
to see what files are available. The server responded by showing
me 7 directories and one file.
Here, I have typed dir
to see what files and folders are available in the directory
I am currently in. Unfortunately, there is only one file in
this directory that I can download. Do you see it? If not, I'll
give you a hint. The file listed here is the only one with a
file extension and a size. Give up? Well, the name of the file
is "welcome_message.txt" and its file extension is
a TXT file and it is 0.54 kb in size. Despite the fact that
the the file isn't too interesting, I can download it by typing
the keyword get and the
file name (get welcome_message.txt).
Step 5. Travel other directories
in search of the file you want by using the cd
keyword. (cd Directory)
<TheChronoTrigger> CARTOONS
<TheChronoTrigger> INTERNET_FILMS
<TheChronoTrigger> JAPANESE_VIDEO_CLIPS
<TheChronoTrigger> MOVIES
<TheChronoTrigger> MUSIC_VIDEO
<TheChronoTrigger> OTHER
<TheChronoTrigger> TELEVISION
<TheChronoTrigger> welcome_message.txt
0.54 kb
<TheChronoTrigger> End of list
<Deena_Pilgrim> cd
Cartoons
<TheChronoTrigger> [\cartoons] |
| dir |
Changing to the Cartoons directory folder
by using the cd keyword
Here I decided to look inside of the cartoons directory for
a cartoon I am looking for. But to look inside of the cartoon
directory, I need to tell the server I want to change
directories (cd).
So I typed "cd Cartoons",
and the server responded with "[\cartoons] " meaning
that is where I am now. Since the directory I was currently
in has changed, I need to type dir
and see what files are around me now.
<Deena_Pilgrim>
dir
<TheChronoTrigger> [\cartoons\*.*]
<TheChronoTrigger> ..
<TheChronoTrigger> GOKUDO
<TheChronoTrigger> I_MY_ME!_STRAWBERRY_EGGS
<TheChronoTrigger> MAZE
<TheChronoTrigger> TENSHI_NA_KONAMAIKI_(A_CHEEKY_ANGEL)

<TheChronoTrigger> [inf-af-f]cinderella_boy_05[304c5665].avi
170 mb |
| get 308_the_tick_vs._science.avi |
After typing dir,
the server lists what files are in the cartoon directory. Seeing
the file I want, I decide to use the get
keyword to download it.
<TheChronoTrigger> [\cartoons\*.*]
<TheChronoTrigger> ..
<TheChronoTrigger> GOKUDO
<TheChronoTrigger> I_MY_ME!_STRAWBERRY_EGGS
<TheChronoTrigger> MAZE

298 mb
<TheChronoTrigger> [inf-af-f]cinderella_boy_05[304c5665].avi
170 mb
<Deena_Pilgrim> get
308_the_tick_vs._science.avi
<TheChronoTrigger> Sorry but due to abuse, this file
server uses an Anti-Camp Policy. Since you reached the maximum
number of personal queues this session will automatically
close in 30 seconds.
<TheChronoTrigger> The file
has been queued in slot 2 |
| |
After requesting my file, the server responded
with "The file has been queued in
slot 2" and didn't send my file. What gives? Well
apparently I need to wait in line for the file to send, and
there is already 1 person in line ahead of me. In addition,
the server window is now telling me that the window is going
to close in 30 seconds. This is no mistake, but it is normal
when you request large files. With limited bandwidth, files
need to be scheduled so that they don't all send at once. The
server has recorded my request, and will now close the server
window as it is no longer needed. All you need to do now is
wait until it is your turn. When it is your turn, the file will
send automatically and you will see a status bar when it sends.
That is the core of everything you need to do
to get around in our channel. If you understood all that I've
said so far, you can consider yourself a pro!
